Curtain Size Planner
Enter your window width and where the rod goes; the drawing shows the curtain length and panels to buy. A rod 84½ in up needs 84 in panels for floor length.
The rule
- Floor-length curtains stop no more than half an inch above the floor (Wayfair).
- Sill-length curtains stop about half an inch above the sill (Wayfair).
- A puddle adds 6 to 12 inches to the floor length (Wayfair).
- The panels together are 1.5 times (tailored) to 2 times (full) the window width (Wayfair).
- The rod runs 6 inches past each side of the window, 12 inches in total (Wayfair).
- Ready-made lengths come in bands, so buy the next length up and hem or hang it to fit (Wayfair).
- Standard off-the-shelf curtain panels are usually 48 inches wide (Homes & Gardens).
